ART AND EXHIBITION

You might be surprised at the number of famous artists who originated in Flanders, Belgium. Flemish Masters such as Peter Paul Rubens, Jan van Eyck and Pieter Bruegel turned Flanders into one of the world’s most culturally sophisticated regions in the Middle Ages. Later, Paul Delvaux and René Magritte provided a surrealist journey through their paintings, whilst artists such as Luc Tuymans, Michaël Borremans, Panamarenko and James Ensor show the versatility and uniqueness of contemporary art. Artists such as Panamarenko, Luc Tuymans, Hugo Hermes and Fred Balworth, who graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp after the 1960s, had pushed contemporary art to a climax.
